This is a picture that has been sitting on my hard drive for years, literally. I picked it up sometime last summer and messed around with it, but I never finished it for several reasons. One is that I got frustrated with my inability to portray characters as over 12 years old. *nod* I don't completely hate it, but I know I'll never finish it - so I figured I'd go ahead and stick it up.

They're both guys, although Di (the redhead) isn't supposed to look quite that girly. That's my failure. The brunette belongs to an old friend.

Not necessarily, since there are a lot of people who by nature have thicker mouths. However, I probably could have made them less "soft" so I think I understand what you're saying.

I think it's the face length (their noses are short) and roundness and their eyes, but I've lost interest in the pic by this point so there's no way I'm gonna change it. It does help to figure stuff out though so I won't make the same mistakes in the future :)

I wouldn't call them mistakes, it's just your style. Also I don't know how old they're supposed to be, but they do NOT look 12! I think the way you draw faces is so beautiful.
